if he plays like that, the position you show is not very important.
Cause then you will have to make passes from the side (I field more left and right), to play passes through the gaps.

imho:

you need more midfielders there. At least one more and then put nr. 8 and the other midfielders 2-3 fields to the left/right each.

Wenn then they get the ball, they are in a very bad position for scoring imho.

But as always talking about tactic, there isn't THE tactic.

Wide strikers and mids directly behind them. Turn your centre formation into a box and rotate your wingers depending on which side you're attacking down. 4-4-2 would destroy his defence.

I don't have winger, my team is very new and young (age average under 19) and I always have to play against better teams in my league. That's why I have to use defensive tactic. I play 4-4-2 diamond, 1 def mid, 2 central mid (they're a bit defensive) and 1 att mid.
So in my team, attacking responsibility is mainly for att mid (no.8) and the 2 attackers.

yes. With 2 mids on the side who play the passes. The pass from the center will not be played, as no player will be there.
