The player's talent or skills have nothing to do with it here. It is simply a comparison between types of training.
It's not about pops.
It's not about pops.
Then I'll rephrase my question...
How is training calculated vs talent?
Higher % for higher talent, or less skill points for higher talent?
I presume it's higher %, but then it means that the GT % is dependant of the talent? Is that correct?

The training points are always the same, regardless of their age. They will simply require less or more points to pop depending on their talent and age.
Or this is how I always understood it

Well, that is exactly the question I have about it.
I always thought a player needs 100 points to rise in any skill, but the % of the training lowers down with higher age and skills and the talent determined the base %...

We already talked about it once I think :p
It doesn't matter
7 GT = 1 advanced
if a 18yo player needs 2 advanced to pop to solid defender, he will need 14 GT
if the same player has 23 years and needs 6 advanced to pop to incredible defender, he will need 42 GT
If more points are needed (due to higher age, or higher skills level) then you need more ADV trainings and more GTs
if you get less points due to lower talent, then you need more ADV trainings and more GTs

It's as if you had to fill a container with water
you have a bottle (ADV training) and a cup (general training) which is 1/7th of a bottle
it doesn't matter how big container you have to fill with the water, you will still have to use x bottles or 7x cups

And each skill level is a bucket (the greater the talent, the smaller the bucket).
:p
I lost track of many changes, this one for example. I rely more and more on Terrion Assistant

borkos has already explained it pretty much.
If you can't wrap your head around it try using Terions Sokker Asistente. You can picture it better that way because you can manually chance a players talent (from 3,2 to 4,2 etc.) and see how needed point for a pop change.
