I agree with Morrow. Richards and Toews are able to do those work aswell, but they're not able to heat the emotional level up with "dirty" plays imo.

I didn't see the game against Switzerland but I think that Canada dominated the game but they just didn't score.
Surely they dominated, but they were not able to create many very good scoring opportunities. And I think the Swiss players even made the bigger hits than the Candadians!

And Swizerland plays so boring and defending game that the result wasn't so surprise.
Hmm ... a team of NHL superstars didn't beat (in regular time) a team with - apart from Hiller and Streit - doesn't have any outstanding players, I'd say it's a huge sensation! ;-)

So far to me it seems like Canada played without aggressivity, without inspiration. They might win against Germany, even if they play as bad as so far, but they'll surely lose against Russia if they don't change their way of playing!
I still hope they do, I'd like to see them winning against the Russians! :-)

According North American standards it should be fishy(hitting head first is clearly againist hockey rules) hit, but questionable. In Europe Ovechkin would have personal penalty to end of match.

Nice open ice hit. I don't like Ovy, but this was a clean hit imo. He didn't leave his feet, his stick was down and it wasn't an elbowing either (even though the elbow finally came out a bit).
So to me a clean hit.

Well, I didn't really see a hit against the head. The hit was frontside, Jagr surely must have seen Ovy coming. Would have been different if he had hit him blindsided.
No idea why Jagr had his head down ...

Sorry but it doesnt matter from which direction it came. Bodycheck is body vs body, not body vs head. And frontline attack on head is far more dangerous. Whats matter is if it was intentional by Ovechkin, which imho was. This hit was againist rules but referees should not see foul clearly.

It does. If it's frontside a player has the chance to "protect" himself because he's aware of the fact he's gonna be hit.

I don't see an attempt to injure (which is imo the only reason for a penalty) and I think it's Jagrs mistake because he didn't have the head up. Every child gets told to always keep the head up, Jagr should be experienced enough to know that.

I totally agree. It was Jagr's mistake cause he had head down. And of course Ovechkin couldn't stop anymore cause he was already tackling. Clean hit imo.

I and rules totally disagree.

Ovechkin was supended for next match after similar foul:

And sorry, if there was some attempt to injure in games where Czechs participated, it was this one.

Imo we now have a perfect example of a clean hit (against Jagr) and a cheapshot (against Wirz).

Wirz doesn't see Ovechkin coming, he's looking in another direction (well, you can argue he should keep his head up aswell) and Ovy's hit was only directed to the head and therefore it was an attempt to injure.
He's done it a couple of times in the NHL aswell btw, so I tend to agree with you that Ovechkin do it regularly.

But the hit on Jagr was clean, I can't change my opinion there ...

Hehehe. but he's rather old, I remember early 90s supporting the Pittsburgh Penguins with "Super" Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr. :)

Is he still playing for Czech Republic National Team?
