Hopefully we’ll steal one medal from you in men’s 500m, would be great for us! We’ve had some success in the old days but can’t recall when was the last time we got a medal in speed skating in the Olympic level. It was so close 8 years ago but a small mistake in the last corner of the 2nd run ruined everything. Now it’s only one run, so it’ll be really interesting!

Had to check, 1968 we got a gold and a silver so it’s a nice even number.. perhaps Poutala will win it?! :)

I had to pick up my daughter this morning, transport her 20 miles away to her boyfriend, brought my youngest son to work immediately after and grab my oldest to go back to his university in the next bigger city...all in oneandahalf hour...with lots of accidents left and right cause of heavy snow at the streets on my way... in one day everyone in my region just wanna amuse oneself and gets drunk and be happy
...so thats what I call speed skating :/l

damn... And I'm cursing like crazy when I have to drive from work to home which is about 10 minute drive.. (incredible how many bad drivers we have here XD)..

Does anyone actually care about anything on Winter Olympics?

Speed skating, a sport nobody except the Netherlands cares about :p The Eventing of the Winter Olympics basically.

In the past many more countries, specially the Scandinavian countries, Canada, Italy, Japan. But no other country spend so much time training new talents, that's paying out. Other countries need successes to make the sport (again) interesting again.

Just as cross country, many medals can be won with speed skating.

And Wüst has a record, first Winter Olympics athlete winning 5 individual gold medals in 4 different Olympic Games. At least 1 in each Winter Olympics.
