I think Ice-T has right. About movies back then, and now. But there are still some good movies these days, but less ofc.
i am tired of these recommendations...look at movies from 2012
That will become a very short list of recommendations .... ;/
The year a movie is made doesn't make it a good movie, a good script makes it a good movie.

I agree, but I don't think there's that many less good films made today. If you look back at the old great movies there is quite a few, but they are probably made between 1930-1970 or perhaps even after that. Depends on what you mean by "back then". Some consider movies from early 80's old while some only say that "back then" is around 1950.
Today usually means 1990-today, so it might be a shorter period.
I also think that there's quite a few great movies being made today, but they don't always get recognition. It's easier to market a big budget action blockbuster than some cheaper drama.

Movies til 2000 I already consider old.
About the new movies made, still glad there are some producers that make some nice movies that deserve not 1 but several times to be watched.

Ofcourse it's all about taste, but if you don't know movies like Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Forrest Gump, The Shining, Apocalypse Now, Reservoir Dogs, The Green Mile, Full Metal Jacket, Monty Python, Heat, The Truman Show, 12 monkeys, Blow, Memento, Star Wars, Trainspotting, City of God, The Silence of the Lambs, Saving Private Ryan, Mad Max, etc etc etc then you don't know enough about movies to say we should post only 2012 blockbuster movies :S These are all must-see movies.

not true..old movies have primitive ideas
Oh, and don't forget, many movies that become the special effect blockbusters of today are remakes of older movies/scripts, so the scripts of these movies are already great only you don't know them.
So be carefull when you talk about 'old movies have primitive ideas', before you know it you are praising some remakes of 60's or 70's movies/scripts (like for example Planet of the Apes, I am legend, Clash of the Titans, all Marvel Comics and DC Comics, etc), or maybe even older ones, without even knowing it ;)
List of films based on Marvel Comics and all Marvel Comics characters
List of films based on DC Comics and all DC Comics characters
List of film remakes A-M
List of film remakes N-Z
50 Upcoming Movie Remakes (Yep, 50!)
EDIT: btw, do you have any idea how many of the movies in your 2012 movies link take a look are remakes, based on remakes and/or already existing old scripts and stories? I looked it up and counted at least 8 of the first 14 movies in that list, included the complete top 3!! :P

i'm not saying that writers are better now...dialogues seems too simple, predictable ... everything is based on dialogues ...the image has no value ,i do not like theater
1 absolute positive thing about special effects in movies is that my favorite genre looks better now as it ever did, eventhough the scripts aren't always great, or often not that great at all: Sci-Fi :)
Just finished watching Lockout, was an entertaining movie but not much above average. The 6.1 rating it gets on IMDb is a good rating, I would give it between a 5 and 6.

I wonder if they could remake the 3rd one and ruin that ;)
