I have just written an english abstract of my thesis. And even though once lived in London for 6 months my english grammar still sucks.

I would be glad (and buy you some beers if you come to Copenhagen) if someone from an english speaking country would have a look at this and tell me if there is anything in it there is so bad, that he can't understand it.

Here it is (everybody is welcome to have a look at the thing I have been spending way to much time on. I will answer questions if there is anything someone would like to know, but I am a little busy at the moment...)

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to find out how the Danish television stations have been using sports programmes, during the period where the Danish TV-competition has escalated. And to find the characteristics of the sports viewers and the difference between the genders.
I’m focusing on the difference between 1993 and 2003, and the difference between public service-channels and commercial channels, plus the difference between primary- and secondary-channels.

I do it by using the Danish viewer analysis-system, the “TV-Meter”, which has rarely been used in domestic academic research.
The project is divided in two parts. The first one takes part as a schedule-analysis, only focusing on sports programmes and the other as a viewer-analysis focusing on the sports-viewers.
The first part can be described as a quantitative content analysis. The second part – the sports viewer-analysis is mostly seen in an American market orientated research-tradition.

Sports have been successfully used in the introduction of almost every new channel or technical development in the Danish TV-history, and it looks like it is going to continue that way.

There is broadcasted more sports programmes in 2003 than there was in 1993. But there is broadcasted more television altogether, and sports actually takes up less time of all the TV-programmes in 2003 compared to 1993.
The commercial channels are broadcasting more sports programmes and the public service channels fewer. Especially TV3 has been using sports (soccer) successfully in their schedule.

In 1993 the smaller sports were broadcasted more than they are in 2003. The biggest sports - soccer, handball and cycling is taking up more and more of the airtime.
The Public service-channels show a higher amount of different sports than the commercial channels.
The upcoming of secondary-channels has given the TV-channels, the opportunity to show more sports – especially in weekend prime time where there often is sport on the secondary-channels.

A new type of programmes has emerged at the commercial channels. Before and after the transmissions the commercial channels are spending more and more time on talking about the match. That is a result of the rising prices in the sports rights. The channels are squeezing as many minutes out of their sports rights as possible, and that allows them to show all the commercials they can’t show during the match.

Gender is very important for the amount of sports seen by the viewers, as men watch much more sport than women.
Men prefer masculine, action-packed, advanced sports. Women prefer aesthetically beautiful sports.

Handball is a sport, which can make TV-compromises in the homes, whereas soccer is not.
Men prefer to watch soccer, but when they are watching sports together with women they watch handball more often.

It means: "Thank God that I arrived at this powerful team so I can finally train in peace!"
You are welcomed!

That's actually a very nice written piece there, Rasputin! Only a few minor mistakes: "There is broadcasted more sports in 2003" should be something like "more sports were broadcasted in 2003". That's the only thing I can find, being a skilled English speaker. :)

Can anyone translate this?
