Some authors (Kowalski 2002, Doliński 2005) suggest that complaining can be a socially accepted way of establishing interpersonal relations and helps defining goals and enemies/threats. In this context complaining can be considered as a social influence method. In street experiment (n=48) normal talk and complaining were compared in order to determine their ability to influence people and make them obey to requests. It is shown, that after typical talk people fulfill well justified requests as well and pseudo-justified ones (100% each), but people fulfill only well justified requests when asked by complaining person (75%) or not talked at all (80%) but not pseudo-justified ones (respectively 17% and 20%). Results of experiment shows, that complaining destroys positive effects of previous talk and is not a good method of social influence.
