Hi, I'm Mr Domo and I'm presenting my candidacy for Scotland coach on the NT forum. You can ask me any questions you consider necessary.

Hi Domo. Why Scotland? And why do you think you are the best candidate, or in other words - why do you think you are better than Donaldo? ;)
2024-09-13 00:59:39
I can't say that I'm better or worse than anyone else. I can only show what I've done and what I've achieved. I think that all the years of experience leading a national team, obtaining very good results, give me the endorsement to lead the national team of any country. Why Scotland? I think that it's a team, with high-level players, that should obtain better results than those it has obtained to date.
Don't you think that it should be in the World Cup above Saudi Arabia?

Happy to have a healthy debate. Not many are.

But your above analysis could have been concluded with 5 seconds look at the group and/or National Rankings. Not impressive.

I'll outline a basic debate structure. If you can put forward a positive and intriguing response I'll even consider voting for you.

How much of the disappointment in not qualifying for the World Cup can be attributed to;

i) Tactical inefficiency from Donaldo.
ii) Tactical efficiency from opposition.
iii) Strength of Scotland squad.
iv) Strength of opposition squads
v) Poor luck
vi) Something else.

Thanks for your answers - I just wanted to know a bit more about you before I decide on my vote.

Also good to see history links for both candidates!

Donaldo, you have my vote.
You helped me get first NT experience, with putting in a good word in Andorra.
It's tough as NT boss. Andorra with only 3 users have not got the greatest of squads.
In saying that according to Donaldo 2 of the players would be first 11 players for Scotland.
You helped me with tactics, and I got an skmail from the currently Columbia NT boss praising the tactics after our first match.
The game was tied for an hour before Columbia strength overcame plucky Andorra performance.
Only teams to batter Andorra were Brazil and Scotland, although the Scotland game was Scotland B v Andorra B effectively.
I reckon Andorra could beat Scotland B...

Strikers are very important at the top level of the game, and it's clear every team in the group had better strikers than Scotland except Costa Rica.
Ultimately the other teams took more of their chances than we did. We created enough chances.

Our midfield looks fairly ordinary too.
Clearly we have tidy defenders and that helps recycle possession in defensive areas and great for ball retention at times, but that doesn't win football matches.

And importantly, next season there is no qualifications, so at least you can't f*ck up anymore :)

Dazza to dmnk
"Also good to see history links for both candidates!"

Yeah that's nice, but Columbia would be stronger than Scotland and difficult to draw a comparison.

"And importantly, next season there is no qualifications, so at least you can't f*ck up anymore :)"

Knew there had to be an insult somewhere.
Next season will be important for working on improving players. Whoever is in charge.
Some Strikers are getting close to being top strikers and that will help massively.
Don't think any will be for qualifiers next time around, but possibly for the next finals IF we qualified.

More concerned about the midfield. 1/2 Andorra players is defensive mid, he'd easily get into the Scotland team.
The no.1 winger is still Zico Raith, soon to be 37yo and he's far from a top class winger.
The no.2 winger is Stevie's wonder kid from a wee bit ago, Alister MacRaith, sold for £13M. His owner does not want him playing much if atall while he develops. I respect that, it wasn't easy to get to see his skills, he will be a top winger when fully trained.

Personally I love to play tactics involving a winger or 2 but currently we just don't have the players to fear any medium to top NT side.

Defensive mids, always a issue for small Nations.
We have some potentials in the midfield area but they take a long time to develop.

Our defensive continues to be strong, and we have some new defenders coming through too.

Goalkeepers, we have 3 world class goalkeepers, however only 1 on form :)
We appear to have plenty of them on the way too.

"Clearly we have tidy defenders and that helps recycle possession in defensive areas and great for ball retention at times, but that doesn't win football matches."
As the great Bobby George said 'Trebbles for show, Doubles for Dough'. I fine athlete was Bobby.

National coaches are basically measured by results. We can all have different styles of play, either because of tastes or because we want to enhance the strengths of our players. But the use of an appropriate tactic, depending on the opponent to face, is fundamental. Regarding bad luck in football, I consider that chance has a very low percentage. Everything is basically measured by efficiency, both offensive and defensive. I only consider that the level of the Scottish national team should be enough to, at the very least, always qualify for the World Cup.

Colombia was not what it is now. I took it in 53rd position in the ranking. Working together with the community, we improved until we qualified it again for the World Cup. This happened when we were in 42nd position and in pot 3, and then we began to earn respect for our results, both in the qualifiers and in the World Cup. If we compare them currently, Colombia is 22nd in the ranking, with a performance of 78, Scotland is 26th, with a performance of 76. The difference now is very small.

Nice to have 2 candidates to choose from.
With any game, football and sokker is no different. There is an element of luck. I watched all the matches in the campaign and in a few I felt we didn't get the breaks. We were certainly outplayed by Saudi Arabia in the 3 0 defeat which was the most disappointing game. Both defeats to Philippines was a bit scandalous. I remember we hit Woodwork 3 times. Think it was one of those games.

Good luck both. I'm undecided for now.
