The first match is behind us! I rate the debut as quite successful. We managed to move the opponent away from our penalty area by which we significantly reduced the creation of dangerous situations by the Vietnamese. To tell the truth, the opponent, except for an effective shot from a distance, created one situation, at which the heart beat harder.
In our case, on the other hand, there were really a lot of situations. At least 3 can be considered 100% situations and two more as mega-threatening.
I deliberately used one tactic. It allowed me to see how the players move, what spaces are created between formations and how the midfielders use them. A lot of room for improvement.
Pity about the lost goal,. By cutting off the opponent's strikers from the situation, I counted heavily on Lachlan MacVanish not to let himself get a goal from distance. Unfortunately, one shot surprised him. It must be said that it was a very strong shot. However, I hope for more.
I was very stressed before this match. Not only that the debut, but also with a higher ranked opponent, who won the last match. I feel unsatisfied but the experience very cool. Slightly "battered" emotionally I focus on the next matches.

U20 "MAMMA MIA" MINI WORLD CUP(U20MWC)

Another match lies ahead. This time we will play against the team of Azerbaijan in the tournament U20 "Mamma mia" Mini World Cup. The rules of the tournament are simple - the loser is out. In addition, as the name suggests, we can play U20 players.
I don't know what to expect from this match. First of all, we are again playing against a higher ranked opponent. Secondly, our u20 team has a lot of deficiencies. The weakest is our attack. Actually, its lacking because we have one striker - and virtually no technique. Don't be surprised if a player who is nominally not a striker comes out in attack. Personally, I don't like to play with one striker, and I am constantly thinking of what to come up with for this match
Third, the opponent's personnel seems to be more balanced. In our case, there will be visible differences between formations.
We have a difficult challenge ahead of us, we are not the favorite, but I will do my best to announce another U21 match again next week.

The Mamma Mia MWC adventure is over.
Unfortunately, we didn't spring a surprise and lost to Azerbaijan in the MM MWC. Despite the shortcomings of the U20NT, I was hoping that we could do something and put up a fight against a higher ranked opponent.
I've cooled down a bit after yesterday's match and a few conclusions come to mind. First of all, it was somehow possible to bridge some level differences between the players. As you can see from the statistics, we played bravely and for victory. Despite the scores being 6.5 points lower, we were the ones with the advantage in shots (10-7). Possession of the ball - very even with a slight advantage in our favor (51% - 49%). The game was played slightly more in the opponent's half (52%-48%).
So what happened? First and foremost - the U20 national team does not have a good striker - it is worth noting that our best striker has such skills - shot very good, speed formidable, technique poor. He was the best! - I've already started working on getting anyone to convert into some kind of striker. I will try to support training for this position.
Secondly - I was very surprised by the individual mistakes of our defenders. And those were the ones I counted on the most. MacVanish let in what there was to let in - however, this was due to the fact that the opponent's situations were practically 1 vs 1.
After the match, I can say that I would have set the MIDs up a little differently. The opponent was taking the ball away from us like little children. Trying to make Richard Lewis a wizard of the game ended up losing his potential.
I feel sportsmanship anger and even more mobilization for the next matches. I will devote more energy to preparing the younger years for the youth team.

FRIENDLY GAME

Ahead of us is a friendly match against the El Salvador team. A meeting that will serve to test several solutions. We can't use our best strikers because both Stewart Bowman and Robbie Langhe will get time off. Perhaps such a break will improve their form because they have been at a tragic level for some time.
Despite the fact that this is a friendly match I care about the result. We need to keep an eye on the ranking so as not to fall into the 4th basket of the World Cup qualifying draw. I would also like to check the defense's play. And especially look at the behavior of the def when they play at certain heights. However, the offensive has to undergo the most tests. Next season will be extremely difficult because there is a shortage of candidates to replace the current top strikers. The lack of players as good as Bowman, Langhe or Law is perhaps the most significant challenge for the U21s.

A very good result and quite a good game. There are a few things I need to get attached to and keep working on improvements. Murray Law showed his capabilities in the match, he was ruthless to the opponent's defensive line.
We keep working though, it takes a lot of work to provide nice players for the next generation. For the time being, att doesn't look very promising and the other formations may not catch up with the current 21-year-olds. It's not bad but the process of lowering the players' skills has probably already started.
Now you have to plan and play the matches in such a way as to get a minimum ranking of 51. This will give us a better placement in the WC qualifiers.

In addition, we are still in the testing stage and unfortunately still lack of form in key strikers. I'm afraid that it will no longer be possible to take advantage of the skills of Bowman or Langhe. Perhaps in this match one of these two will get a moment and score a performance. Later on we will have matches mainly U20 (Georgia or Honduras). If they regain their form then the match against Russia will probably be their last, farewell match.

I'm only getting around to writing today. Over the weekend I had to cool down a bit because Saturday's game took me out of my mind a lot.
What can I say, I feel very bad about the ranking points. One individual mistake by a defender and really the only situation exploited by the opponent. We, on the other hand, created quite a few situations, and we could have created even more. However, I made a mistake, a serious mistake, putting Bowman in the lineup. I hoped that his lack of form would be compensated for by his high skills and on such an opponent he would give something extra for the team. Unfortunately, a strong disappointment - Bowman lost a lot of balls, played inaccurately, and when he had a situation worked out, he could not take advantage of them.
A lesson for the future, painful but hopefully effective. The next match against the finalist of the World Cup promises to be tough, you have to fight for points in the ranking.

Hayastan U21 0:0 Scotland U21
The friendly match against Armenia was an important test for our national team. We played against a much higher ranked team, a WC participant. It was also hard to predict what tactics the opponent's manager would choose. This test promised to be interesting from the very beginning.
Before the match there were several problems with the players' forms. The one that suffers the most, of course, is our offense. Firstly, few players, secondly, very poor forms. There were 2 strikers with as such forms available for this match, and any possible changes would be in the defensive and midfield. However, the events of the field turned out quite differently.
A strong yet nervous start to the match included at least a crossbar after a P. Dick shot. Later the loss of Lewis in the front of our goal and the threatening situation of the opponent.
Finally came the 8th minute - an interesting action and a penalty for our team. Unfortunately, as a result of a foul, M. Law got injured, who was replaced by H. MacLeister. Law is our best and only flesh-and-blood striker and his departure from the field affected the whole already meeting. To make matters worse, the penalty was not used by Dick, who also had a chance to hit his first shot. Unfortunately, in both cases the opponent's goalkeeper was better.
It's a shame about the missed penalty because, as it turned out, the next situations we created were more difficult and did not result in a goal. MacLeister sabotaged the match, contributing absolutely nothing to the game. He made one meaningful shot, the right strength, ball flight height, etc. He was wrong by less than about 5m. However, it was his best play. Alone Dick, who is not a technical virtuoso, tried to surprise the opponent but it was not enough to score a goal.
It's a pity about the draw, as we again had an advantage that we couldn't exploit. We will play the next 2 matches with the U20 team. This will be a test and a kind of review before next season and the Druid Cup.
We are still in the fight for the ranking, which will give us the 3rd basket.

Ahead of us is a friendly match against Georgia. I do not foresee any problems so we will come out with the U20 lineup. Which players will play will mainly be decided by form. I wanted to test a few more players, but I decided to myself that the performance will be decided by the current form. In case of some unexpected events, there will be Murray Law in the frame, the only 21yo who will enter only if victory is not certain.
