He could get 18 18 in main skills, but even with my further guaranteed training there is little hope for other visible ups

Well that depends on your choice, with 18-18 he would be also an amazing defender (although at that age as you said, it will be hard...)

From NT side - there are many very good defenders available, but choice among midfielders is not that big (and only Balbierer is another defensive midfielder)

For a def-mid 17-17 in pace/def is enough already, but even that +1 in passing would be very helpful :)
