All
i got a great little defender who sweeps up at the back for me but he is 24 and i want to train defenders
here is his stats
Standa Pilát , age 24
value: 158 250 £, wage: 1 575 £
divine form
bookings:
formidable stamina,
good pace,
average technique,
adequate passing,
hopeless keeper
formidable defender
very good playmaker
weak striker
now he is the lynch pin in my team from which the rest of the players are built on and by fat the best player i have
is it worth moving him to midfield where he would be much better than my current crop
or should i sell him and get a more natraul midfield player or better trainees
or could i play him in current role and just class him as a MID in the team sheet and class a MID or ATT as a DEF for training purposes
i feel without this guy in my defence i am going to leave my keeper without any cover

Try sticking him just in front of the back four as your holding mid. He'll do a good job for you in midfield, but your defence may still suffer. Double but, they'll suffer even more if he's not there at all.
Agree. Then play 5 defenders for training purposes.
i have a back 5 at present he plays as the sweeper
i only have 3 in the middle none really defensive as i also have 1 striker and one forward/attacking midfield so thing a DM would be a little too negitive
my feeling was to play him as the most central of my 3 midfields who is like a DM but a little further up the pitch than a convential DM

Well as I said, he will do fine in midfield at the level you are. So you'll just have to hope your defenders pop quickly to the next level.. and don't forget even a divine defender is next to useless if he has the pace of a snail.
and why is he too good to sell?
you should get what he's worth in the market... and as you said, could invest that money in a new trainee...
or buy a similar player if you like, but you'll have a bit of choice out there and could get someone a little different, maybe a little more suited to a role you need... ie with that little extra pace...

when i said too good to sell i meant that he is my best player
not sure what i would get for him selling and replacing was going to be my first option
i think i am going to sell and try get some reasonable trainees as the one i have are crap

ok i have 700k (sold another player aswell) to build a new team
the only postion i am really happy with is my keeper although my striker seems ok if he could convert more of his chances
any advice?

good news is i aint in a rush as i will get s 5-0 walk over tonight
Urrr, sell everyone, then carefully buy in 10-12 (2 subs) nice trainees.
No point keeping and training players if you are not happy with them.
Carefully choose the right trainees, and sell off everyone so the deadline is late-ish on sunday.....

Keep anybody who is young enough and talented with the right skills for the position you are going to train.

so you would recomend buying in trainees and leaving the rest of the team as it is?
plan is to sell everyone once i got replacements so i dont rush in a pay over the odds like i did last time
what sort of stats make a good trainee? (for a team like mine ie crap)

Just buy the best trainees you can afford.
Depends what your training.
E.g. Striker trainers should go for players with pace & tech with striker a bonus.
Defender trainers players with defending and pace.
Alternatively. I trained a few players from near scratch when I started. Two of my trainees had playmaking solid+ and everything else poor-adequate. Meant they would benifit from any training and would be long term trainees. Cost less than 30k. I sold 1 or 2 of them for over a million 3,4 seasons later. Oscar Bellesi still in the squad but will likely be sold this season or next.

If I was a complete noob I would do this:
1. Work out what I wanted to train.
2. Sell anybody who did not fit in with that plan, except a keeper, and 2 strikers....as an example if you went with training defending.
This is to raise the cash so you can buy in some decent trainees.
Everybody else you can buy in. I'd happily play (and I did) with 9/10 defender trainees in my first team.
Then choose the right players.
Shop around.....take your time.
Like I said, you may have players already that will fit in...if they are 20 or under and talented.
Then get a coach with magical main skill and some cheap assistants.....
Just figure out a long term plan that is logical.....

Yep if you a couple of good youngsters to start with, then makes sense to go with that.
I had 18 and 19yo solid defenders with some pace so went done the defender training route.

"what sort of stats make a good trainee? (for a team like mine ie crap) "
Defenders:
Age 19 or under
N/A stamina, N/A keeper
average pace, adequate defender
average technique, poor playmaker
poor passing, N/A striker
Train defending, then pace.
Mids:
Age 19 or under
N/A stamina, N/A keeper
average pace, N/A defender
average technique, average playmaker
average passing, N/A striker
Train Pace, then passing, tech and playmaking.
(Add defending for def mid)
(Add attacking for offensive mid)
Forwards:
Age 19 or under
N/A stamina, N/A keeper
average pace, poor defender
average technique, poor playmaker
poor passing, good striker
Train pace, tech and striking.
These are all examples, but I'd do a search like that.
Personally I suggest training defenders as they give you the best bang for your buck in my opinion.
Easier to train, improves the team performnce the most and quickest way to get some decent trainees to sell.
