Hi,

I've got a young scot up for sale and everyone keeps asking me his talent. How do you work this out?

At week 21 he started off at level 6, down to week 1 he popped to level 11. Now at week 0, what is his talent?

P.S. my youth coach is brilliant (does that matter?)

Thanks

Edwyn

talent is worked out when he is in the youth school
and its how many weeks on average it took him to pop

gooogle for sokker organiser, it helps you work it out, and gives you proof too.. though its only good if you update it weekly... otherwise you get big gaps.......... lol

I have a nice 3.25 talent, emerging at brilliant in 2 weeks.. I have big hopes for the income he might bring me... though I may play him and see if he can help my team........... though i should sell him to bring in a much better coaching team....... oh heck

not much help for this youth now, but talent is calculated like this:

Say your lad popped as follows starting at week 21 (level doesn't matter for talent calculation):
(Key: '/' = pop, '-' = no pop)

-/----/---/----/---/-

Some common mistakes people make when working out the talent of players is to count his total number of weeks (21) and divide this by his number of pops (5), giving a talent of 4.2 (21/5 = 4.2), or they might ignore the last week from the calculation as he didn't pop a full level, and count 20 weeks in the calculation, giving a talent of 4 (20/5 = 4).

as i said these methods are both wrong.
The golden rule is that you should ignore all partially complete weeks (in most cases this means ignoring the weeks taken up to and including the players first pop, and ignore all weeks of training after the last pop).

For our lad above, this leaves the following training pattern:

----/---/----/---/

he pops after 5 weeks, then after 4 weeks, then after 5 weeks, then after 4 weeks again.
This example is quite straight forward and we can say just by looking at this that his talent is 4.5 weeks.
For more complicated popping patterns we need to calculate this as follows:
Talent = total number of weeks in complete pops DIVIDED BY total number of complete pops
18/4 = 4.5

-----------More complicated fine tuning of talent---------------

Now you may have noticed that when i was discussing on igoring all partially complete weeks above i said "in most cases this means ignoring the weeks taken up to and including the players first pop, and ignore all weeks of training after the last pop".

I say in most cases, as there are some situations where these should be included.

Namely in these 2 cases:

Case 1:
The weeks of training before the first pop are included as they must be complete:
eg
----/---/---/----/--

The youth pops in 4 or 5 weeks each level, thus his talent is between 4.01 and 4.99, and each pop can only take 4 or 5 weeks, 3 weeks and 6 weeks are not possible (presuming you have not changed your youth coach). As it has taken 5 weeks for the first pop, this must be complete as 6 weeks is not possible. thus this is included in the calculation of his talent:
18/4 = 4.5 (or rather 2 levels at 4 weeks, and 2 levels at 5 weeks)

Case 2:
The weeks of training after the last pop are included as they must be complete:
eg
--/---/---/---/---/----

The youth pops in 4 weeks each complete level, thus his talent is around 4, though it may be a bit above 4 (in which case there may be some 5 week pops that we haven't see yet), or it may be a bit below 4 (in which case there may be some 3 week pops that we haven't seen yet). As we see at the end there have been 4 weeks of training without a pop, this level must require 5 weeks to pop. Thus this info is included in the calculation of his talent:
21/5 = 4.2 (or rather 4 levels at 4 weeks, and 1 level at 5 weeks)
