Only thing I didn't understand, and I say this not knowing his skills, was why Lappin was played in the def mid position considering his more common position of high up the field.

Lappin is our best def mid in the squad, but he has other attributes that McColligan doesn't have so Lappin upfront and McColligan in dm would be my preffered option.Given the need for greater defence against the better nations and coupled with McColligans low form then Lappins attack was sacrificed to protect the defence.
Austin McWilliam could be Lappin's long lost twin skill wise and would have many more caps but for poor form over the last season or so, so despite still being in low form i thought that i'd gamble with him today in the Lappin role.

Unlucky. We gave it a good shot. Spain are a quaility side. Going a man down against them was always going to be nearly impossible.

ha, i'm well chuffed that my lad Cipriani scored a Hattrick to knock England out of the World Cup and stop them reaching the finals :D

great stuff! Cipriani scored the opener in the World Cup Finals which Italy won 2:1. The lad's got himself a World Cup winners Medal! :D
