Subject: »»Youth reform: Changes in youth academies / junior traini

2024-03-11 21:04:45
Raul to All
We present to you one of several ideas that we are considering as the next priority in the further development of the game. In the coming weeks, we will present several different ideas in this way, and then we will open a vote to determine which type of changes should be introduced next. Each will be presented by explaining our motivations and the problems we want to solve with the given reform.

Junior reform, problems to be addressed:

- Significant lack of control over the academy and its excessive randomness - until leaving the academy, there is no guarantee that a particular junior will be useful for anything.
- Lack of interesting options for managing the academy - apart from admitting and selecting juniors, we do not have many reasons to visit it.
- Significant advantage of 16-year-old juniors over older ones, especially 20-21-year-olds are usually completely useless at the moment.

What we will not do and why:

- Increasing the level of juniors - there are enough good players in the game, there are basically too many of them - we do not want to raise the initial level because it will not ultimately change anything - just better juniors will raise the level of players in the game, which will eventually make current mid-range juniors worthless, and current juniors considered valuable will be perceived as average. The perception of the level of a junior is subjective and refers to the average level of all juniors available on the market.
- Locking the age of juniors at a certain level (e.g., no 20-21-year-old juniors) - the absence of such juniors would again artificially raise the level of players in the game, the problem is not that such juniors appear, but that leaving the academy they are unable to compete with players who left at the age of 16 and have been playing in the game for 5 seasons.

What we expect in the reform are other changes:

1. Unlocking higher skills for juniors, linked to age - depending on their age, players will be able to have different maximum skill levels. The age at which they finish training in the academy will be crucial. For example, for a 16-year-old, the highest skill will be solid, for a 17-year-old very good, and so on. For 22-year-old players, it will be possible to randomly generate a skill even at an outstanding level. This will significantly improve their competitiveness and, moreover, allow for the reduction of the distance between a junior from the academy and playing in the first team regarding results.
2. Junior analyst position, a person we can hire in our club who will be able to assess their skill distribution and probable skill ranges based on the performance of our juniors in youth competitions.
3. A small bonus for junior training linked to the level of junior competitions they participate in - no greater than, for example, a 10% bonus for playing in the highest league, then 2.5% less for each subsequent level until the bonus is zeroed (values are not final, we are illustrating the mechanics here, the bonus cannot be too large). Nonetheless, we want to slightly reward those who invest their time in junior leagues and their results.
4. Introduction of club facilities (which we presented 3 years ago, the idea in principle remains more or less the same, with minor adjustments).

We foresee 4 different facilities that can be expanded as part of youth facilities:

Scouting Department - responsible for the number of recruited juniors and can also unlock the option of acquiring juniors from abroad. With each subsequent level, we will have a chance for a larger number of juniors joining the academy in a given week (but this will not affect the skill level of the juniors), but at the cost of increasing the maintenance cost of a place in the academy. The levels are defined as follows:

Basic scouting network - weekly increase in juniors 1-5
Local scouting network - weekly increase in juniors 1-6
Regional scouting network - weekly increase in juniors 2-6
National scouting network - weekly increase in juniors 3-6
International scouting network - chance for a foreigner - 5%

Campus - determines the maximum number of juniors we can have in our academy. Here, too, larger facilities will increase the cost of maintaining a junior. The levels will be defined as follows:

Maximum number of juniors - 15
Maximum number of juniors - 20
Maximum number of juniors - 25
Maximum number of juniors - 30
Maximum number of juniors - 35

Analytics - allows for effectively measuring the progress of juniors and assessing their level. This parameter will determine how thoroughly we want to track the progress of our juniors, where the basic level corresponds to the current evaluation system. Subsequent levels will allow us to get closer to the previous system (older users will probably remember) which measured the progress of juniors with full accuracy. Of course, subsequent levels will increase the cost of maintaining a junior:

Basic level of junior assessment
More effective measurement of jumps +1
More effective measurement of jumps +1
Suggested position for new juniors
Precise measurement of jumps

Training facilities - depending on their level, we can hire a better coaching staff. Here, higher levels of facilities do not affect the maintenance cost of a junior place - we will incur a greater cost by hiring a better coach. Expansion will allow us to employ a specialist at the maximum level - however, it will be possible to opt for a weaker specialist or not have a coach at all:

Maximum level of coach - incredible
Maximum level of coach - dazzling
Maximum level of coach - magical
Maximum level of coach - unearthly
Maximum level of coach - godlike

Yes, keen-eyed users surely noticed the mention of godlike coaches - such a skill level for coaches will also be introduced.
In addition to the impact on the cost of maintaining a place in the academy, facilities will also require a one-time fee for their expansion. Fees will significantly increase with each subsequent level - on the one hand to allow for the operation of academies even among beginners (basic infrastructure will be within reach practically from the beginning of the game), but the most advanced levels will be a significant cost. We do not provide exact amounts because they will require adjustment at the testing level.

At the end, we kindly ask you to rate the idea of this reform on a scale of 1-5 in the attached survey. Of course, there is also room for comments and suggesting your own improvements. We request constructive and substantive feedback. The ratings are for illustrative purposes and are intended to reflect the popularity of the idea among users. The decision on which of the "major" reforms will be implemented first will be made in a separate, dedicated survey after presenting all the ideas.

I don't like the most of this idea, but this one in particular

People who play in higher leagues usually do so because they already get better youth players

For example my team plays for 22-23, that has nothing to do with whether I invest my time in youth league or not, it's because I get shit youths all the time. Even if I have better tactics / better chosen players and I create situations, they are still too weak to score even 1 goal.

And now you want to reward those who have more luck with getting youths by giving them even better training for youths that are already better than those that will get worse training.

Another part is that it will be worth keeping old players "overtime" just to get to higher leagues, plus there is a bug due to which people stay in their league even though they should be relegated, wrong teams get relegated due to the bug etc. I have no idea how you come up with such ideas.

As for other parts:

1. Unlocking higher skills for juniors, linked to age

it won't change anything in practice, even if older people will get out with higher skills, they will still be useless - possibly even more useless since it will be now possible for a magical-divine youth to go out as 20yo with outstanding striker and playmaker

2. Junior analyst position, a person we can hire in our club who will be able to assess their skill distribution and probable skill ranges based on the performance of our juniors in youth competitions.

brings nothing to the youth school, doesn't fix any problem with it, pointless especially since 99% of people don't care about youth league

4. Introduction of club facilities

this we already talked about... they fix nothing, you will just make people pay for what they have now already so they youth school will become even more expensive and out of reach for new/small teams...

Scouting Department - only actual change is that IF WE PAY instead of 1-6 youths we will get 3-6 youths... plus a chance for foreign youth, which is ok (but just an extra)

Campus - now we can have 30 for free, but you will make people pay to have 30... with an extra 5 possible, but honestly - I have problems with keeping even 11, most are worthless anyway...

Analytics - accuracy is barely needed, it's easy to see who is worth anything and who is worth nothing... just another place to take the money away...

Training facilities - again, now you already can have max youth coach without paying, your addition is that... we will have to pay for the possibility to pay to the coaches

I honestly don't see how this idea fixes anything in the youth school problem

One more thing to add.

With this bonus teams from small countries will be granted perma bonus since no-one will be demoted from their respective top leagues.

The level of coaches should be able to divide the skill distribution to a better cohesive and prevent combo's like passing - striker or field players with higher GK level.
Strikers should be tended to have more striker skills over other skills, and this also counts for mids, defenders and GK, which already have a similar system...
Only then the introduction of higher levels for older youth players ( 20 - 22y) will give the bonus worth paying for. Also, You said, solid for 16, very good for 17, that means that you will reach outstanding at age 20 and a possible brilliant at age 22. Was this a typo or intended or did you made a calculation error?

Analytics should be used to define the best position of a player. It should give the coaches a source to work on with the youth players, so their skills will be distributed in a better way. With basic analytics, it would be the same as now...completely random. Higher level analytics should make a more balanced skill distribution. Give the manager a reason to invest in their club, not an excuse...

As for Campus...managers who have 20+ youth players within their team now, will they need to pay for the 30-level right away for them not to lose excessive youth players? My feeling is that the 30 is good enough though. the quantity of bad youth players don't need to rise imo. I think if you do a survey, most people will agree on a handfull of youth players each season, but for them to know they can become decent players to work with. Imo, the shifting of useless players should be done BEFORE they enter the youth school. Leave only the ones through which are at least decent to work with.

People who play in higher leagues usually do so because they already get better youth players

Are you sure about that?
In my country the youth champions are not the ones that make the most money with young players.
A handful of 20-year-olds with no sales value can play better than any talented 16-year-old.

In my country the youth champions are not the ones that make the most money with young players.

true, now you make money mostly on 16yo players and luck

doesn't change the fact that if you get shitty players, you are shitty in youth league

I don't see how having luck with getting strong youths should be rewarded by getting better training (so these strong players will be even stronger)

Number 2 and 4. OK I quite understand, but isn't that to kill this inflation a little bit on this game? Which is growing here day to day?
If yes, i think here must be better thing to kill this, to take some money from rthis game (us owners of the club) and try to set up little bit smthg like transfers and etc...
2024-03-11 23:06:46
Do not do anything negative to teams that do not play in the youth league.

For me 4 points. I like the main idea to get more control and things to do in junior school.

An improvement on 1. Unlocking higher skills for juniors, linked to age[.
As the problem is junior too old to compete this was not a problem if we could hire a junior despite of his weeks assigned to complete. For example, if a 17 yo has level 9, but he must still remain in junior school 20weeks, it would be nice to hire him immediately (maybe after a minimum weeks in school)

And I have a complaint with junior league system:
In my junior league, there is a club that never play the matches, never set valid line ups; in consequence every time I have a match vs this team I can't see any match. Always 5-0. 0-5. This is not fun. I've just quit of junior league because of that. My petition is to ban this team from junior league and don't let him to reapply till next season or some kind of solution to avoid this situation as much as posible.

I guess, as usual, I'm going to speak for thee newer teams here.

A lot of this sounds like the rich and advantaged simply getting more and more benefits newer teams can't.
I'm not sure how exactly this is going to 'grow this game'.
2024-03-12 00:37:23
+1 my friend.... I am here for some quite time... but agree
2024-03-12 00:38:49
I don't know if I'll ever join the youth league - because I don't ever expect to have enough players in my school at one time!

This was my first season with a YS, and I have 5 kids kept.
2024-03-12 00:41:02
That's my impression, too. I need to look at this in more detail.

My feeling is this is an overcomplicated solution for a relatively simple fix. Simply make 16 and 17 year old juniors rarer.
Personally I'd also scrap junior matches and leagues. That gameday could be better used on something else.
